Founded in 1949, American Quarterly has established itself as the pre-eminent guide to American studies. The journal promotes a broad, humanistic understanding of American culture and encourages cross-disciplinary work. In addition, it publishes forums, exhibition and book reviews, and short timely think pieces called "Currents." Recent special issues include "Legal Borderlands: Law and the Construction of American Borders,"* edited by Mary Dudziak and Leti Volpp; and "Rewiring 'The Nation': The Place of Technology in American Studies,"* edited by Carolyn de la Peņa and Siva Vaidhyanathan. American Quarterly is the official publication of the American Studies Association (ASA).
