Literature and Medicine

For more than twenty-five years, Literature and Medicine has been devoted to exploring interfaces between literary and medical knowledge and understanding. Issues of illness, health, medical practice, trauma, and the body are examined through literary and cultural texts. The journal showcases the creative and critical work of renowned physician writers, leading literary scholars, and medical humanists. Readership includes scholars of literature, history, and critical theory, as well as health professionals. Special issues in such areas as health and environment and the art of case narrative have become essential references to scholars. Recent special issues include "Narrative, Pain, and Suffering"; and "Difference and Identity,"* edited by Jonathan M. Metzl and Suzanne Poirier, which was selected by CELJ (Council of Editors of Learned Journals) as runner-up for Best Special Issue. Literature and Medicine features one thematic and one general issue each year.
