Children's Literature is the annual publication of the Modern Language Association Division on Children's Literature and the Children's Literature Association (ChLA). Encouraging serious scholarship and research, Children's Literature publishes theoretically based articles that address key issues in the field. Each volume includes articles, essays, and abstracts of dissertations of note. Recent highlights include a volume focused on Louisa May Alcott's works, guest-edited by Anne K. Phillips and Christine Doyle; a forum on trauma and children's literature edited by Katharine Capshaw Smith; and Nathalie op de Beeck's award-winning essay, "The First Picture Book for Modern Children: Mary Liddell's Little Machinery and the Fairy Tale of Modernity."
